"They disappeared", more like wholesale exterminated pointlessly.
They kept prairie grasses in check, now we have grass fires.
They provided food and warmth to the indigenous people.
IF they are going to tell the story, tell the whole story as it is
interesting and maybe a bit embarrassing.
