The Trump administration is telling states not to pay full November food stamp benefits, revising its previous guidance after winning a temporary victory at the Supreme Court on Friday.
USDA’s latest memo, sent Saturday to state directors of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, instructed states to deliver just 65 percent of benefits during the government shutdown and required those who already sent full payments to claw back that money.
“To the extent States sent full SNAP payment files for November 2025, this was unauthorized. Accordingly, States must immediately undo any steps taken to issue full SNAP benefits for November 2025,” the memo notes.
Intentional cruelty is a happmark of modern "conservatism" and this administration.

A lot of people on the Right really hate it when you defend property taxes. Many of the responses were ill-informed, with some believing it went solely to left-wing causes, illegal immigrants, Section 8 housing, orwelfare. Many held fantasies that roads, police, and fire departments naturally exist on their own. One person even claimed most roads were built years ago, so you no longer need taxes to support them. Some even began defending the federal income tax, claiming it can pay for all your local needs. Nearly all the critics were unaware that America has always had property taxes, yet they were all confident that it’s a newly-imposed tyranny...
Why should SNAP people be paid anything when the military and the TSA and the ATC fold are left without anything?
At least the latter three are productive members of society, the first not so much.
This could end in a day, if the Dems would give up on free shit for people who don't even try.
I realize you think otherwise, I just don't understand why.
This could end in a day if Trump and his minions in Congress extended the ACA subsidies.
Why should they do so? You didn't address my question either.
Why should we give even MORE subsidies to folks who can't/won't do for themselves? I applaud the end of the subsidies.
Again, if you care to answer: Why do you think that it is ok to hold the country hostage for people who won't even try?
I realize that it is your blog and you are under no obligation, I simply do not understand why this tiny percentage of people, who won't do for themselves, are so important to people with a mindset like yours.
40 million people are on food stamps. You're willing to starve tens of millions of people in order to make a political point.
That tells me all that I need to know about you.
nice diversion. Still no answer though.
And you didn't mention the ACA subsidies either.
Strange, that.
But hey, your blog.
At least the latter three are productive members of society, the first not so much.
True enough, B. But then the millions of minors on food stamps, are they required to be as productive as the other two groups you mentioned?
Can't argue with the woke right.
For everyone else reading, of that 40million its obvious that most can
and do try and are not succeeding so the need help. The really interesting
part is the red states will suffer hardest.
Eck!
Nice that you recognize that. I don't work for you.
But yes, the ACA subsidies are a main part of this. More proof that, to the GOP, to the Orange Sociopath, cruelty's the point.
B, you make a statement that is flawed. You feel that the majority of recipients are grifting, others feel that the majority of recipients are the needy. Granted, there are some who cheat the system by taking something for nothing. The rules that should prevent that are not working. What needs to be done is the safeguards need to be reworked and overhauled, not shit-can the entire system. Why punish those that need the most help? Enforcement of the regulations and a regular review of the recipient's situations should be done instead.
Also, the military is getting paid, albeit not their full salaries. TSA and ATC are getting zero payments for their services.
