Not a Perfect Correlation on Abortion, But Still...

The Old South is still the Slave States. They are slaves to superstition, slaves to racism, slaves to fear, slaves to the NRA, and slaves to the GQP, slaves to Fox, and now slaves to trump*.

True for the Deep South, like Alabama, Mississippi. I doubt they will change. But states like mine, North Carolina is a swing state and has several important Blue islands like Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Chapel Hill, Research Triangle, Asheville, and just about any town that has a college or two, a hospital,and small/medium high tech companies that are growing. Add in retirees from northern Blue States, like in my small city, Salisbury, and you have a nice blue island.
