This is a long report in the New York Times concerning the disappearance of insects around the world.
It will come as no surprise that one of the possible causes is the wide use of neonicotinoid pesticides. They seem to be the equivalent of using megaton-sized nuclear weapons to end a hostage standoff.
It's more complicated than that, of course. In some areas of the planet, the insect population has dropped to one-sixtieth of what was previously observed.
So what happens when the insects drop off? Nothing good. But I'm not going to rehash the article, read it for yourselves.
