The Saudi Lie du Jour

Journalista Jamal Khashoggi died after a fight in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, the country's state TV reported quoting an initial probe.
Riight. A sixty-year old man who appeared to be somewhat obese got into a fight with a bunch of goons half his age. And the Saudis brought an autopsy expert with a bone saw to serve coffee. The boxes that they used to bring out his dismembered body were brought to pack presents for Eid Al-Fitr.

Besides Trump helping the Saudis cover this up, the chances are fair that all fifteen of the men involved will be (if not already are) in desert graves out past the Saudi equivalent of Terlingua. Or something similar.

The Saudis really do need to hire Sarah Huckabee Sanders to instruct them in the fine points of lying.

Meanwhile, Trump still thinks that it's fantastic that a Rethuglican congressman physically attacked a reporter. So it may be understandable that the Saudis thought that he would be fine with them killing one. Trump is an enemy of freedom, a foe of the Constitution.

Where to start. Trump calls press the enemy. Saudis murder a journalist that was living permanently in the USA. Trump provides excuses for Saudis: rogue killers, he talked to the prince and he said he didn't do it. So I guess case closed. Once again our President is spot on with his legal expertise.

Trump claims that the news is fake. Congressman bodily assaults a reporter. Trump says "That's my guy!" Trump supporters cheer. Republicans go to a restaurant and get heckled. Trump supporters jeer.

On the one hand you have the leader of the right, if not openly then at least overtly approving violence against the press, many of who are leaning to the left. And Trump supporters are silent. But when Congressperson Waters advocates confronting Cabinet officials in restaurants, Trump supporters go bat-shit crazy. One side promoting using their fists (or more), the other side promoting people to use their voices.

I think we have crossed into Bizzaro world.

Actually, Ben Jacobs deserved what he got.

Reporters don't get special treatment for their behavior just because they are journalists....they have to behave just like the rest of us. As do congressmen. Behave, and things like this don't happen. Bait people, and this sort of thing might just happen.
The phrase I was taught when I was a child was: "Don't want none? Don't bring none". Mr. Jacobs was looking to provoke Mr. Gianforte....and he did. Fucked around and found out.

I see, B. Is that like “she was asking for it?”.

Didn't sound like that on the audio recordings, but you're gonna believe what you want to believe.

He deserved to be called the aggressor, B?:

During a campaign stop in Missoula, Montana Thursday evening, President Trump praised Rep. Greg Gianforte, the state’s lone representative in the House, for assaulting a reporter on the eve of the May 2017 special election that put him into office. The Republican was charged with misdemeanor assault on Ben Jacobs, a reporter for the Guardian, who was pressing the wealthy tech entrepreneur about the Republicans’ health care bill. Gianforte was in a surprisingly close statewide race at the time with Democratic folk singer Rob Quist and lied in the immediate aftermath, saying Jacobs had been the aggressor. Recordings of the event and eye witness testimony, however, proved the contrary and Gianforte later pleaded guilty to the charge and issued an apology for conduct that he said was “unprofessional, unacceptable and unlawful.”

So assault and lying are acceptable behavior?
