Night cat shots.
I gather those neon or LCD strips that are lit on some of the airpanes are some sort of formation lights...anyone know for sure?

I had a coworker who was an ex-RCAF engine tech on Hornets and married to a Hornet driver. He told me the lighting strips are for formation flying at night. The lights are just bright enough for your squadron mates to see but too dim for the enemy to. They are specifically positioned so if you are too far behind your leader you can't see the front one and if too far forward you can't see the back one as the wing will obscure it.
