The cops are now using Predator drones.
I respectfully submit that anyone who doesn't think that the day is coming when the cops will be firing weapons from those drones should have their head examined. The government is rapidly developing missiles way smaller than a Hellfire. They will be used one of these days, probably sooner: "Them bad guys were holed up and so we blasted them out with a missile from a drone. Sorry about the hostages, though."
The paranoia of Gene Hackman's character in the movie Enemy of the State is about to become the way that people are going to have to live if they don't want to be watched all of the time.

Before these Barney Fifes get too uncontrollable, we ought to do something like cut their budgets until they can only afford ten bullets and a half tank of gas.
Either that, or make the application of these special weapons cost each and every cop in that precinct actual money. Need to tase somebody? That's $200 out of your salary, $500 out of your captain's, and $2,000 from the police commissioner. Need an armored car? Everyone eats ramen noodles for a week. Need a Predator drone? That cuts into your pension.
I have argued the same point previously.
Now that the "WAR" is winding down (ha!) the Copseye corp has excess production the price is attractive
to Barny and fiends.
Wait till the hackers start using their drones to follow the Copseyes!
I figure that's the next level of escalation. that is right after more airspace restriction to keep the bug smashers out of the drones way.
Eck!
The great Chris Rock routine makes the same point -- watch youtube at
