Like This Is a Surprise; GITMO Edition

It's 2008, an election year, and what is the Administration and Party of Fear going to do in order to keep frightening the electorate?

Terrorism show trials, of course!

From the day that the Baboon King first issued an executive order setting up the military commissions system, it has been a stain on the honor of this country. Though, to be fair, the way that Disgustus Maximus and Vice-Chancellor Voldemort have run things, this country has little to no honor left to lose. They have burned through that as fast as they burned through the budget surplus bequeathed to them by the Clinton Administration.

Everything to do with Guantanamo Bay has been a farce and an affront to principle of the rule of law and due process. This will be no different. There will be nothing approaching a fair trial taking place. There is a long track record at GITMO of disciplining or replacing or reassigning military judges who show any trace of bringing any level of judicial scrutiny or impartiality to their tasks.

We should do away with this farce completely. Let's be honest about what is going on here: Just stand the prisoners against a wall and shoot them. If we are going to perpetrate a dishonorable act, let's at least stop lying to ourselves and to the rest of the world about it.
