Caturday
"Catnip problem? I don't have a catnip problem!"
"On second thought, I do: You haven't given me any, you peasant."
It may seem as though I spoil him, but in one area I don't: Food. I put his food out and if he doesn't like it, he has to wait for the next feeding for something else.

Going to the Wisconsin State Fair? Please Give My Regards To the Brave Bambi-Killers
The Wisconsin State Fair runs August 1-11.
The State Department of Natural Resources apparently has an exhibit there, so you might want to stop by and tell them how much you appreciate them for deploying a SWAT team to kill Bambi bin Laden. If you're good with graphics, feel free to add a "kill the fawn for fun" booth to this map (and I'll be happy to link to it).
Or for fun, you can video other people telling them off and post the video to YouTube. Since the SWAT team confiscated everyone's cell phones and deleted all visual evidence of those thirteen cos deploying to kill a fawn.
Or, if you're on FB, go ream them out there.
UPDATE: They seem to have taken down their FB page. I guess there were far too many people calling them out for being heavily armed gutless weasels.
UPDATE II:
UPDATE III: Their FB page is back up and are they ever being ripped a new one. The DNR's excuses are all about chronic wasting disease and that it was illegal for the shelter to house the fawn. What they aren't addressing is the point that 80% of the commentators are taking them to task for: Sending thirteen armed state goons to take out one little fawn. If they have to deal with a bear, the DNR probably sends in some surplus M-48 tanks.

The NSA Problem for Yours Truly
One of the problems is that the revelations keep coming at a furious pace. I really can't keep up with them.
For instance, under the NSA's "Three Degrees of Terrorism" analysis, it's pretty much a certainty that they have targeted, for collection, every person in this country. Because the Federales pretty much regard anyone who disagrees with things as being terrorists, or potential terrorists. And odds are that at least one of those folks is a friend of a friend of yours-- for the NSA's purposes, "friend" is anyone who you've been in contact with by any means.
The Brits have been working as the butt-monkeys for the NSA. Their British cousins, the GCHQ, would have had to have laid off workers if the NSA didn't cough up something like $150 million over the last few years in money given to GHQC. In turn, GHQC got busy doig the spying that the NSA can't do, which presumably means "spying on Americans".
More NSA whistleblowers are alleging that the NSA isn't just collecting metadata, they are collecting everything. And yes, if you are using "the cloud" for anything remotely sensitive, you are officially an imbecile.
Of course the NSA hasn't followed the rules on what they can collect and they got caught. You can bet that the number of NSA employees disciplined for that is somewhere between zero and a very small number.
Oh, and if you haven't gone to a thrift store to buy a working analogue TV to replace your new digital one, you might want to consider it. Or at least tape over the camera and microphone on that new set. Or better yet, find someone who can physically disable them.

So, How Many Terrorist Plots Been Disrupted Because the NSA has Been Collecting the Phone Records of All Americans For the Past Dozen Years?
You might recall that the NSA has claimed to have disrupted 54 terrorist plots or "dozens".
Well, NSA deputy director John Inglis revised that number at a Senate hearing two days ago all the way down to one plot, maybe.
Really. Thousands of NSA analysts, Lord knows how many contractors are sucking at that particular teat, they are building a new server farm the size of Rhode Island and all they can show for that effort is that they uncovered one plot?
Shades of the Bloom County Snake Slaughterers....

Feeling Safer Yet in the American Police State- Whacking Bambi bin Laden Edition
So there was this no-kill animal shelter in Wisconsin. Someone brought in an abandoned fawn. The shelter doesn't do deer, but they housed it and made arrangements for the fawn to go to a wildlife rescue place when they had an open slot in two weeks.
It's apparently illegal to rescue wild animals in Wisconsin without a permit. Somebody ratted them out to the Fish Cops. The Fish Cops confirmed it with "aerial surveillance". They they showed up to get the fawn. The Fish Cops raided the animal shelter like it was a meth lab: Nine Fish Cops and four deputy sheriffs showed up, allegedly in full raid gear, to capture the illegal fawn.
The Fish Cops killed the fawn, stuffed it in a body bag and carted it away.
Brave, brave Fish cops.
In a rational world, one or two unarmed Fish Cops would have shown up, asked for the fawn and taken it away. They'd not have needed to fly a freaking airplane over the place then come with thirteen armed cops to confiscate one fawn from an animal shelter-- places that, in my experience, usually aren't heavily armed.
Most game wardens operate in remote places where they deal with hunters who are armed with rifles and shotguns and the wardens usually work by themselves. In Wisconsin, given the amount of craven cowardice that the Fish Cops showed in dealing with an animal shelter, they probably do their field work in platoon strength.
On Wisconsin, fighting those terroristic animal shelters. Might as well change the state animal from the badger to the weasel.

"Here's Your Money, Now Go Fuck Yourself."
That was pretty much the message this one guy sent:
(They can't carry their own guns to watch over things, because they're in Illinois and carrying handguns is still illegal.)
An Illinois businessman outraged by a court order that he return more than $500,000 in insurance money related to a 2001 wreck that killed his teenage son wanted to pay the money back in pennies in protest, only to recognize that wasn't feasible.Of course, the lawyers at the firm where he made the payment weren't particularly happy to have a veritable shitload of quarters lying around.
So, Roger Herrin settled on quarters -- four tons of them.

Google the "Wrong Things" and the Cops Will Show Up
In case you didn't believe that the Feds (or somebody) is watching everything you do online, consider this: A woman in suburban New York wanted to know how to cook lentils with a pressure cooker. Around the same time, her husband was trying to find a backpack. Both were doing this on the web.
The cops showed up to question them. And not just Sgt. Friday and Detective Gannon, no, six dudes in three SUVs showed up.
If you want to know about pressure cookers, go look at a cookbook in the library. If you want to see what's available, then go a kitchenware store. For if you try to research buying or using a pressure cooker online, the Feds will notice it. And they'll send some of the local thugs from the area "jointfascism terrorism task force" to have a rather intimidating chat with you.
You feeling safer, now?
