One Would Think That in Russia, Such Conduct Would Merit a Painful Execution

The Russians have been known to slowly execute traitors, including allegedly feeding them into a furnace, alive, and feet-first.

But if the traitor is useful to the Kremlin, all sorts of fuckery will be overlooked. As long as it is convenient to do so.

In an apparent escalation of Yevgeny Prigozhin's public feud with Vladimir Putin over his for-hire army, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group offered to sell out the locations of Russian troops to Ukrainian officials in exchange for their mercy on the battlefield, according to leaked intelligence documents.
...
In exchange for Ukrainians pulling back from the front lines of battle in Bakhmut, where Wagner mercenaries have faced heavy losses that Prigozhin blames on Putin's lack of support and supplies, Prigozhin would reveal the locations of Russian troops and stand by as Ukraine attacked.

The Ukrainians did't take him up on his offer, likely because they either didn't trust him or they feared that it was a trap. That it was a trap may be suggested by the point that Prigozhin's still breathing.

Or maybe the whole thing was a Ukrainian setup that suckered Comrade P into betraying himself. The possibilities are endless when you're dealing with Russians and Corruption is endemic. Put out a mouse trap and the Russian mice will fight over who gets first try at the cheese. God what a culture!
