Trump Bangs a Uey Under Fire

With 12 days left in his term, President Donald Trump has finally bent to reality amid growing talk of trying to force him out early, acknowledging he’ll peacefully leave after Congress affirmed his defeat.

Trump led off a video from the White House Thursday by condemning the violence carried out in his name a day earlier at the Capitol. Then, for the first time on camera, he admitted his presidency would soon end — though he declined to mention President-elect Joe Biden by name or explicitly state he had lost.

Trump's statement begins with lies. He was not outraged by what happened. He did not "immediately deploy" the National Guard. He resisted calls for the Guard.

Watch his bullshit:

Trump read his statement with all of the emphasis and energy that he displayed when he had to backwater from his "good people on both sides" statement after Charlottesville. It is clear, from his demeanor, that he's reading that more or less under duress.

Let's remember that, as his rioters were in the Capitol, Trump was telling him that he loved them and that they were special people to him. Now, with his own loyalists defecting, he's following the Dirksen Rule.[1]

For four years, Trump has been the purveyor of hate and division. Now, with less than two weeks left, and the real possibility that he's going to be criminally charged for inciting a riot, he wants to be the president of unity, togetherness and reconciliation.

Right. That would have been like a certain German leader calling for peace talks as Soviet artillery shells were falling everywhere. It should have the same effect.

For four years they did not see him dividing the nation. They did not see him inciting chaos. They did not see him subverting the laws of this nation. They did not see him profiteering from the office of the President. They did not see him ruining what the United States represented to the world. They just did not see.

Republicans. The party of Not-sees.
