Can Facebook Be Any More Venal?

Users are complaining that the phone number Facebook hassled them to use to secure their account with two-factor authentication has also been associated with their user profile — which anyone can use to “look up” their profile.

Worse, Facebook doesn’t give you an option to opt-out.
Even worse, Facebook has been gleefully selling those phone numbers to advertisers. So what users were encouraged to do 'for better security" was nothing more than a ploy by Mark Zuckerberg to get more information on people in order to sell that off.

Guess Zuckerberg thinks he doesn't have enough money.

And yes, the $5 billlon fine that Facebook is paying was, indeed, a slap on the wrist.

Everyone wants your phone number- for your security if you forget your password, of course.

There is, of course, the recollection that we used to put DL #’s, or even SSN’s, on checks...it was a common practice at one point. Not excusing, just noting this stupidity has been going on for ever.
