Sharing Is Caring — But Often A Pain

If you're one of the Covidiots who believe that COVID-19 is "just the flu",
that the 2020 election was stolen, or
especially if you supported the 1/6/21 insurrection,
leave now.

Must be nice... sigh... I couldn't even afford ONE bag of gas for that bird!
Best numbers I can find show the B707-138B with a fuel capacity of 17,334 USG. With a fuel price of $3.09 a gallon (recent cost at DFW) for Jet-A, that's a $55,295.46 fill-up.
Since the average cruise fuel burn for the 138B was ~11,400 lb/hr (~1676.47 USG/hr), that's roughly $5,180.29 per hour on fuel alone. Make me wonder what kind of fueling set-up JT has at Greystone/Jumbolair (17FL).
Of course, we helped Mr. Travola out some years ago. Just after RVSM started, he or the 707 wasn't RVSM qualified and couldn't make it home non-stop without getting up into the 30's. It was after midnight, and they snuck him through. Controller's girlfriend was a huge JT fan and got a package FedEx'd the next day with signed pictures...
Damn, I miss that airplane.........
Nice landing .. Why the QANTAS livery ????
The aircraft is a B707-138B, the Qantas specific model. They pulled 10 feet from the length of the -120 to improve the range. Qantas was customer number 38 to Boeing, hence the -138 designation.
The particular aircraft served about 3 and a half years in Qantas service as "City of Launceston". JT restored the aircraft to it's Qantas "V-jet" livery after purchase for the 2002 Qantus "Spirit of Friendship" tour, which he participated in.
Thanks Centerpuke, I was just going to look those numbers up. I think you're a bit out of date on fuel prices though. Current price at DFW for JetA is $5.75 so that's $9675/hr in fuel alone.

Fuel prices vary wildly between airports - something else to think about when flight planning.
Thanks Sarah, the number looked low to me too (it may have been a bulk buy price for the airlines)...but I was rushed. Sorry!
