Trump Loses in Court, Again

A federal judge temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s ban of three news outlets from the White House grounds, ordering early Thursday that CNN, MS NOW and Politico must have their access restored. Reporters for two of the outlets, however, were denied entry hours after the ruling.

The back-and-forth is the latest in an extraordinary showdown between Trump and media outlets whose coverage he dislikes.

Trump first announced he was banning the outlets Friday, assailing what he called “fake news,” and only later arguing that their reporting was a risk to national security. The outlets argued in a joint lawsuit that the ban was a blatant violation of the First Amendment because it singled them out for the content of their coverage.

In his late-night ruling, U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the White House to “immediately return, reinstate, and restore” the three outlets’ access. He said they had met the legal thresholds to obtain a temporary restraining order, in effect for 14 days, and were likely to succeed in showing that their press passes were revoked without due process.

Judge Kelly was appointed by Trump, so expect his bog-standard rant about disloyal judges. Because he thinks judges he appoints owe loyalty to him, not the Constitution.

Probably didn't help that Trump's lawyer on the case is a closet Nazi.

The quote is relevant because Chris Christie is mulling over yet another try at the White House.

I imagine that one would have to do an almost Diogenes-grade search to find more than a few people who would think that Christie running for president is a good idea. But then again, since he's alleged to have once shut down a state park so he and his family could have a beach to themselves, he may be a good fit for the Turmp party.

ICE = Gestapo (and Tab Clearing)

I know that a number of readers probably view my frequent comparisons of ICE to the Gestapo as hyperbole. But consider this: When an ICE agent shot Wilber Rafael Garces Perez in the back, they had a hospital slap a bandage on him and then tossed him into an ICE detention cell with no bed and no pain medication. ICE didn't bring him back to a hospital until the shit hit the fan in the press. Garces Perez may have some paralysis from some ICE goon trying to murder him.

There has been no colorable justification for the shooting, not even the usual ICE lies about one of their victims trying to run them over. The most I've seen was that he was fleeing, which is not justification.

Trump's ballroom design isn't up to code for things like fire safety, sufficiency of exits and number of bathrooms. Trump says that "I am the code" and he'll have it built the way he wants, regardless of such piddling concerns of it being a firetrap or having seven stalls in a single women's room for a space that can hold over a thousand people.

The only good thing about Trump's constant meddling with the design is that a future president can say "this thing is unsafe and there's no good way to fix it" and then level the fucking monstrosity.

A high profile hacking group claims it has breached multiple FBI-related services and stolen data “on all FBI employees and applicants.” A representative of the group, called ShinyHunters, told 404 Media the data includes FBI agents’ names, home addresses, phone number, and information on their spouse.

The [ShinyHunters] representative provided 404 Media with a sample appearing to contain the personal data of 5,000 FBI employees. That data included an alleged address, phone number, date of birth, and in some cases details on their spouse.

As much as they dared to, 404 Media verified the accuracy of the data.

Presumably, the spouses of the agents are human, but these days, one never knows.

One constant in prior shootings has been DHS and ICE lying about what happened: Calling their victims terrorists, claiming assaults that didn't happen, justifications that were fraudulent.
