A Point About the Russian Navy

A group of Russian naval ships, including a nuclear-powered submarine, will visit Cuba next week as part of “historically friendly relations,” Cuba’s government said Thursday.

The Russian “frigate Gorshkov, the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, the fleet oil tanker Pashin, and the rescue tug Nikolai Chiker” will visit the port of Havana between June 12 and 17, according to the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces in a statement published by the Foreign Ministry.

I've been in a fair number of naval task groups/battlegroups (I despise the newer term), both American and NATO, and at no time did we ever set out with a fucking "rescue tug". The only time one ship towed another was for training.

That the Russian Navy deploys its ships with a tug to accompany them speaks volumes about their level of readiness and maintenance.

Truth

“The personnel manager called himself a human resources manager and, like personnel managers the world over, was one of the least personable people one could meet. Sitting across him, it was difficult not to feel that anyone who could happily reduce individuals to resources, to the same level as oil, bricks, and canaries in coal mines, probably shouldn’t be allowed to have any human relations that didn’t involve locks and prison bars.” — John Connolly, Every Dead Thing

MAGA Republicans Are Just Fucking Despicable Ugly Bags of Sentient Goo

A visit to the Pennsylvania House floor by two former police officers who helped protect the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot of 2021 drew boos and walkouts by some Republican legislators [last] week.

Witnesses said the appearance Wednesday by former U.S. Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn and his ex-boss, former Sgt. Aquilino Gonell, triggered a distinctly negative response from some Republicans, with someone even shouting that they were cowards.

House Speaker Joanna McClinton, D-Philadelphia, who welcomed Gonell and Dunn to the floor, called the GOP reaction to the former officers disrespectful. She said in a statement that many Republican members walked off the floor, turned their backs and booed.

Those cops were doing their job on 1/6/21 to defend the Capitol against a pack of unhinged Trump-cultists who were trying to overturn the government to keep their guy in. Among the people they were defending (and they probably now wish they hadn't) were treasonous little fucks like fleeing Josh Hawley.

They tried to hold the line, they were assaulted and beaten by supposedly pro-police Trump supporters and now they get booed for their service by piece-of-shit MAGA Republicans who are not fit to lie on the ground and let those brave cops wipe their feet on their balls.

The Sound of Crickets on the Right

Hunter Biden was convicted Tuesday of all three felony charges related to the purchase of a revolver in 2018 when, prosecutors argued, the president’s son lied on a mandatory gun-purchase form by saying he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.
...
President Joe Biden said in a statement issued shortly after the verdict that he would accept the outcome and “continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.

You'll hear crickets because Hunter Biden's conviction doesn't fit in with the Right Wing Noise Machine's constant bleating that President Biden has "weaponized" the justice system to go after the poor, Poor Old Convicted (and Senile) Fat Fuck and the J6 coup-attempt terrorists.

Even more damning for the "DoJ is weaponized against MAGA" bozos, according to Dan Abrams of ABC News, there has not been a single other conviction of lying on a Form 4473 when there was only one gun purchased and the gun wasn't used in a subesequent crime. So a fair argument can be made that this case was brought by a MAGA-fueled special prosecutor who was intent on chalking up a win on a bullshit charge. Except the Democrats aren't claiming that, so, move along.

The Return of the Yellow Elephants

Christopher Miller, who led the Pentagon during the chaotic closure of Trump’s tenure in Washington, detailed his vision for [making the ASVAB mandatory for high school graduation] and a range of other changes as part of Project 2025, the conservative Heritage Foundation’s aspirational government-wide game plan should the presumptive Republican nominee return to the White House. Though Trump has not publicly endorsed its policy proposals, Miller is among a cluster of influential former administration officials and GOP lawmakers who have mused aloud about a national service mandate and other measures to remedy what they see as a “crisis” facing the all-volunteer military.

We'll see how that goes, when their presumptive nominee, Commandante Bone Spurs, had a dad who allegedly bribed a podiatrist to claim the TOFF had bone spurs to get him out of the Vietnam War, who told his kids after 9-11 that if they enlisted, they'd be disowned and has repeatedly called those who served this country "suckers" and "losers" (including George H.W. Bush).

Any Republican/keyboard kommando who is in favor of this and who either didn't serve or didn't send their kids to serve in a war zone should be tied to a post and pelted with half-bricks, which would be offered to anyone with a DD214, a military ID card, a military dependent card, or a Gold Star family member.

Plating These Down, Here

Affluenza Still At Work

A Southern California socialite was sentenced Monday to 15 years to life in prison for the hit-and-run deaths of two young brothers in a crosswalk more than three years ago.

Authorities said Rebecca Grossman, wife of a prominent Los Angeles burn doctor, fatally struck Mark Iskander, 11, and brother Jacob, 8, while speeding.

A Los Angeles jury in February found Rebecca Grossman guilty on all counts: Two felony counts each of second-degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter, and one felony count of hit-and-run driving resulting in death.

Superior Court Judge Joseph Brandolino sentenced her to two concurrent 15-years-to-life sentences, plus three years for fleeing the scene of the fatal crash that would run concurrently with the two other sentences, the Los Angeles Times reported.

15 years to life is the minimum sentence for second degree murder in California, according to a quick Goggle search. I'll bet that if some non-rich young male was racing his buddy and drove through two kids in a crosswalk, that the kid would get sent away for a hell of a lot longer. Still, Grossman thought she should get probation and, despite being convicted of two counts of second-degree murderer, she wasn't a murderer. Because she's a good person, even though she ran down and killed two kids and spent four years not only denying that she did so, but blaming everyone else, including the children's parents, for their deaths.

I gather that early parole isn't possible in California for those convicted of murder. Care to bet as to whether or not some leverage will be pulled in order to get her out of stir well before 2039?

Dear Apple: Thanks, But No Thanks (also, FOAD)

On Monday, Apple debuted "Apple Intelligence," a new suite of free AI-powered features for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia that includes creating email summaries, generating images and emoji, and allowing Siri to take actions on your behalf. These features are achieved through a combination of on-device and cloud processing, with a strong emphasis on privacy. Apple says that Apple Intelligence features will be widely available later this year and will be available as a beta test for developers this summer.

Not only no, but fuck, no. When I either write or receive an email or text from someone, I'd like to be reasonably sure that what is going across the ether are the thoughts of the sending party. I don't want to be corresponding with some fucking AI. And, regardless of what assurances Apple hands out, do you really trust them not to keep copies of everything they send/end?

Maybe it's time to go back to telephone calls and hand-written letters.

The future is coming and it seems to have a high potential for serious suckage.

The Russian Asset Tries to Run Away From His Own Words

Needless to say, Cadet Bone Spurs doesn't like being reminded that he has no respect for those who served their countr, especially those who paid the ultimate price.

But he did say those things.
