1-Adam-12, 1-Adam-12, 459, Silent Alarm, Suspect There Now

I took a Model 14 and a Model 15 to the range today.

The show used Model 14s for the first three seasons and Model 15s for the last four. These don't have custom grips.

On a sad note, I finally burned through the last of the Winchester White Box .38s that I bought when Walmart was running clearance sales before ceasing the sale of pistol ammunition.

I picked up a Rossi RP 63 this spring, a .357 magnum, 6 round 3" revolver. While I only paid $315 for it, and got 2 boxes of carry ammo from Taurus, the quality of the gun is fantastic for not just the price but for any lower end handgun.
I wanted to both simplify my life and got rid of all of my wonder nines plus change my mindset of concealed carry to that of not so much the sheepdog mentality, which I admit I kind of had, to just that of getting myself and my loved ones out of trouble.
I know that in a running gun battle with determined gang bangers I won't likely prevail. But I also know that I don't frequent anywhere that such a battle is likely to occur. I understand that one never can be too prepared, one also cannot carry an armory and bring 2 Navy SEALS with one where ever they go.
By the way, I only plan on shooting .38 special standard loads in my gun.

The sheepdog mentality, as you've discovered, is ill-advised. We're not cops.

I'd recommend Speer Gold Dot JHPs, Winchester Ranger and Hornady Critical Defense, all .38+P. They should shoot fine in your revolver and are good in shorter barrel guns, like yours. (I have Winchester Rangers in mine.)

I have to admit a love of 38 special. A nice pop, a very mild recoil, and a nice round hole. No extra blast needed. They shoot great in my Model 66, and except for the threat of our local bear, I'd never put full 357 mags in the chamber again.

I currently have the Hornady Critical Defense in my gun since it is the ammo that I got free from Taurus. .125 gr. and fast enough to get good performance in a shorter 3" barrel.

What would be good ammo for a Browning Hi-Power for home defense? What if I could inherit a 20 gauge Winchester shotgun?

Shotgun: Buckshot.

9mm:

Federal Tactical 124 gr JHP (LE9T1)
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)
Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP
Speer G2 147 gr PT
Winchester Ranger-T 147 gr JHP (RA9T)
Winchester 147 gr bonded JHP (RA9B/Q4364)

Lots of good +P rounds, which newer BHPs should handle OK. But I stuck with standard-pressure.

Really, any good quality JHP should suffice.

Yeah, full .357s in a K frame aren’t fun. High Desert Cartridge Co. makes a nice mid-range .357 load.

Let's say someone will cut the barrel down on the shotgun so that it is more useful in tighter spaces. I want to hit what is in front of me and not start and not start an electrical fire.

As long as the barrel and overall length are legal, OK. Otherwise, buy a Mossberg Shockwave. https://www.sportsmans.com/mossberg-590-shockwave
