The engine-in-wing alone (instead of on pylon) would identify it as a Brit design....
"Ease of maintenance" has not historically been something British designers and engineers care to consider. Their steam locomotives, with inside-the-track pistons, were a prime example of that.
Odd bird on many counts, including its ground 'attitude'. And apparently their cartridge lasted a LOT longer than the US version!
