T-Mobile Hates Poor People

A friend is in rehab following some serious surgery. Her only way of communicating with people outside of the rehab center is with her cell phone.

I went down to the T-Mobile store to pay her bill as, obviously, she can't do it. T-Mobile charges $5 to pay in person.

So people at the lower end of the economic pyramid, who don't have bank accounts, get dinged for paying their bill in cash.

Shame on you, T-Mobile, for making extra money off of poor and working poor people.

Shame.

They are also apparently cancelling all prepaid accounts and moving them to more expensive plans.

We dropped T because of their ridiculous excuses in service and overcharges. Agreed, shame on them for their way of doing business.

So it looks like I was wrong about the prepaid plans, it was just one guy at one T-mobile store telling Briana that they didn't do prepaid anymore to try and sell her a $90/month plan, which is still slimy as fuck, but not as bad as cancelling all prepaid plans.

One of T-Mobile's prepaid plans is Mint Mobile. I don't stream a lot, and I am usually near WiFi, so the $15/month plan, plus local taxes, works for me. YMMV.

They have all of the prime 5G spectrum by their purchase of Sprint. It's a lot expensive than what Verizon and AT&T had to pay in the 2020 spectrum auction. They plan to cash in it.

Mid-band spectrum (between 1 GHz and 6 GHz)

The U.S.'s Auction 107 (C-Band 3.7 GHz) emerged as the world's most expensive mid-band 5G spectrum auction in February 2021 at 94 cents per MHz/pop, inching above Taiwan's 71 cents per MHz/pop 3.5 GHz auction a year earlier.

Earning a total of $81.11 billion, Auction 107 is also the largest auction ever in the U.S. Verizon Communications Inc.'s Cellco Partnership was the biggest spender, shelling out $45.45 billion, followed by AT&T Inc. spending $23.41 billion and T-Mobile US Inc. spending $9.34 billion.

Gotta say, T-Mobile beats the living snot outta Verizon if you are traveling outside the U.S. A number of plans, clear charges, and easy to buy short term plans…

Verizon hit me for over $300 due to some roaming charges during a cruise the ex- was on, a 5 day cruise with three calls and a few texts…after telling me there was no worries, everything would be covered.

TL;DR All cellular companies are opportunistic assholes.

Some of you curse Verizon but I have to say it works for me. We live in a hilly area but we have line of sight to a Verizon tower. I pay 26 a month for our one cell and it keeps my wife happy texting the kids and reading news. In our area, Verizon is pretty universal in coverage and we don't travel so roaming charges are not a thing. I'm not saying they aren't evil, but they have been good to us.

Verizon typically has the best coverage of the big boys. Your mileage may vary...

I can take you places in northern Minnesota that have zip for anything but satellite and OTA antennae if you want to watch TV.

Absolutely agree. Verizon has the best U.S. coverage, T-Mobile is the most transparent (on base charges, they actually disclose taxes and fees) of a sketchy bunch, and AT&T is the most capable of dropping your calls.
