Lesson Learned: The College Board Can be Bullied by Politicians Pushing a White Nationalist Agenda

The official curriculum for a new Advanced Placement course on African American studies downplays some components that drew criticism from conservatives including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who had threatened to ban the class in his state.

In the framework released on Wednesday, topics including Black Lives Matter, slavery reparations and queer life are not part of the exam. They are included only on a sample list states and school systems can choose from for student projects.

Republicans love closing their eyes to reality. They love pretending that the best time in this country was the 1950s, when, to their recollection, women were in the kitchen, minorities knew their place (and didn't vote), gays were in the closet and nobody ever heard of a trans person. They like pretending that slaves were "immigrant workers".

Of course, the one thing they don't like about the 1950s that such things as interstate highways and strong defense were paid for, in part, by high taxes on rich people and that there were heavy taxes on generational wealth. Nope, they didn't like that at all.

The takeaway here is that the College Board has the spine of overcooked linguini and will cave to even a smallish pressure campaign.

In other news, as DeSantis purges the state universities in Florida, look for "Jewish science" to be banned. Which is essentially science that is not in accordance with the Bible. for any professor, tenured or not, who dares to each anything not approved by the Christian Taliban will be fired.

Florida has long had a reputation for shitty-ass public schools. Now their public universities will be equally shitty.

IF they hadn't embraced outright lies like CRT and the 1619 bullshit, they'd probably have most of what they wanted in the curriculum.. But no, hadda go way too far to outright lies.

Of course, it is easy to blame the white folks rather than their bankrupt and shortsighted culture of failure. It is easier to hide from the truth by blaming others, isn't it?

Laugh. Out. Loud ... (not B; blind hogs and acorns, occasionally we agree, incompletely)

There's a canard in science about equal and opposite reactions. Barroom brawling dictates backing down from a bully only encourages their behavior, by the same measure. Backed down

G'da would've muttered something into his teeth about givin' 'em enough rope ...

1619 is bullshit, eh, B. The truth hurt your feeling, did it? CRT, which you are actively misdefining, hurts your feelings too, eh. This will be interesting, as the decent and good student abandon Florida institutions of higher learning because someone they know wouldn’t be save or accepted at one. The real fun will be when a few top football recruits enter the transfer portal or refuse to sign because of this, and it will happen.

If the College Board had any backbone, they’d have said “OK, you don’t want this AP course, you don’t have access to ANY AP courses.”

Yeah, I know that saying that the South's economy was based on slavery and then the work-arounds that were used for a generation or more afterwards makes people uncomfortable. So does saying that racism exists and that it has been largely baked into the American system.

Which is, like it or not, the truth. Do you think that those cops in Minneapolis and Memphis would have strangled/beaten white guys to death? Do you think that Philandro Castile would have been killed if he was a white guy?

I know that acknowledging racism makes conservatives uncomfortable. They seek to deny it.

Too bad.

MK-ULTRA, your comment isn't anywhere close to being on point. It's close to being spam.

But you're new here, I believe, so you get a pass.

The fact that CRT is not taught in US schools validates the concept of CRT.

Given tantra healing is basically a sexual assault gateway, I’d say MK-ULTRA is a Tate wannabe…I’d can it, but it isn’t my blog.
