Get Off Thy Ass and Register to Vote

If you are a citizen of the U.S., you are eligible to vote and you are not registered to vote, then get off your motherfucking ass and go register to vote.

Today is National Voter Registration Day. And just because the Party of the Confederacy is making it harder to register to vote and to vote, that's no reason to not register and vote. In the first 2/3rds of the last century, people were killed for registering to vote. Saying "ooh, it's just too hard" denigrates their sacrifices. Saying that people have fought and died for freedom disrespects their deaths if you don't exercise your freedom to vote.

You say your vote doesn't matter? In my county, a few years back, an election had to be redone because so few people got off their asses to vote that there was a tie. That cost tens of thousands of dollars.

More to the point, if you don't vote, then your opinion is valueless. If you don't vote in November, then every time that you are about to offer an opinion on politics, you should, instead, punch yourself in the face.

Get off your asses, register to vote and vote.

It is the very least we can do, right? I feel like we should all be doing a lot more than that to be active citizens, but, well, I don't always do much more.

How is the "Party of the Confederacy" making voter registration (and voting) harder?

Not that I disagree with you...Folks that are legally able to vote SHOULD do so.

Too many times it is only the (both sides) Party Faithful who decide things.

But the vast majority of conservatives will tell you that they strongly believe in racial equality. Even the donor who wrote “F— THE MUSLIM N—–” about Obama says he is “absolutely not” a racist. They do believe, however, that they are constantly being unfairly accused of being racists by liberals. They eat up laughable pseudo-histories such as the work of Dinesh D’Souza claiming that Democrats are the real racists. And, at the urging of media figures such as Rush Limbaugh, they have become convinced that white people are the last legitimate victims of racism in America today, regularly held back and tied down by a system that distributes spoils to minorities while leaving them to struggle on nothing but their own merit against unfair advantages given to others. In other words, they’re deeply invested in the idea that they are absolutely, positively not racist, and they abhor any effort to divide Americans by race.

I'm registered and I vote by mail. I think that's the best way, as I can spend a couple hours with my paper ballots in front of my laptop making sure I get every decision right before making a mark. Nobody's waiting in line for me to finish, my signature on the mail in envelope is matched with the one they have on file for positive ID without any vote-suppressing hoops to jump through, and I can enter my ballot numbers into a website later to make sure they were counted.

B., for a start, closing all Drivers License Offices in nine counties in Mississippi, counties that just happen to have the largest black populations in the Mississippi delta, while passing a voter ID law that demands drivers licenses. Incidentally, there is no public transportation in these nine counties, and the nearest offices are only open during normal working hours, M-F.

CP: and you can show me that those closings were just for racist voter suppression?
Not say, budget cuts, or lack of use, or anything like that (I don't know, you could be right, I'm asking, not telling). One would assume that all those poor black folks are walking to work then, huh. 'Cause they can't get Drivers licenses to be legal to drive either, I would assume. Or are they all driving illegally?

Or is it just that voter ID seems racist 'cause it cuts down of fraud and you don't like that 'cause everywhere there is a newly implemented Voter ID, the voting statistics change.....

B., most poor folks in Mississippi don’t have DL’s because of the time and money. They walk to work at a location near their home or even farm/work the land, and shop in the closest store. It may seem crazy to you, but some people simply can’t afford a car. Those same people either can’t afford to take a day (or two) off work to get a DL or face being fired if they don’t go to work.

As for the intent of the State of Mississippi: https://www.usccr.gov/pubs/msdelta/ch3.htm

Does university ID show residency? Or an address? My Cal ID did not show this relevant information.

My understanding is that it does .
