Ah yes, the 'growl' of four 3350s! And those are the long stack version! They were truly workhorse engines! Burned oil like it was going of style, and throwing it out too! 18 gal reservoirs, it would 'burn 6, through 6 out, and leave you 6 gallons...LOL
In my college years in Atlanta, I used to fly back and forth to home in Miami on the TWA Super Connies. I always scheduled night flights so I could watch the exhaust flames: huge, billowing orange on takeoff, gradually fading to blue as the FE tuned the mixtures. Loved it.
