It seems that if you make a long-distance trip on Amtrak and you book a sleeper car room, the DEA will illegally search your shit and steal your money, even if it's only $60.
A "red flag" is having a sleeper compartment and not checking any luggage. Why the fuck you'd want to check your bag when you're renting a room on the train where you can keep your shit is apparently unfathomable to the DEA.
Just get in your car and drive. If Amtrak is happy to let the American Stasi board the train and hassle its paying customers, then long-distance rail travel deserves to die.

Until they stop you for some pretext, a drug dog 'alerts' at your car when you don't give them permission to rip through it at the side of the freeway and gee, you're carrying cash. Must be drug money, we'll take that citizen. Land of the free my ass.
Just 40 years of authoritarians yelling for law and order, keeping things moving toward their desired end. Which is a society that is controlled by the right people who know how to keep the riffraff in line. Unfortunately most of us fall into the riffraff category.
This is why when I travel, I never carry more than 60.00 bucks.
