American Slave Labor

I wish this was a joke, but it is not. Unicor, the Federal company that manufactures shit with prison labor and which used to be limited to making shit for other Federal agencies, is now starting to compete with American businesses.

So it's not just Chinese companies that use prison labor. Now, American companies can and without having to get on a fourteen-hour flight to Shanghai.

Gee. Can't imagine how that can go wrong.

Huge corporations that make obscene profits from prison labor... the workers supplied by for-profit prisons... that are populated by ridiculous drug laws and sometimes crooked judges... crooked in every court including the highest in the land... who support police state tactics...

And all enforced by government, which is now thoroughly malleable by huge corporations, who stand to make huge profits...

How can we NOT turn into a nation of a few wealthy families, a hierarchy of trustees, and the rest all slaves?

This is, unfortunately, old news. I recall covering it shortly after I started my blog in 2004, though in the context of state prison systems (where most of America's prisoners are kept) rather than Club Fed. But the fact that it appears to be unknown by most people that the U.S. uses prison slave labor to compete with American businesses just goes to show how well our news media works. And given that 40% of the male population of some communities has a criminal record... that's a *lot* of slave labor, yo.
