Four local police officers have been killed while working with the U.S. Marshals to serve arrest warrants: Two a few days ago in Miami, now two today in St. Petersburgh.
Odd that when you see a show on the tube about the Marshals doing stuff like this, you never see the local cops on those raids. But it seems that it is the local cops who are the ones breaking down the doors and getting shot.

Federal cops using local cops as redshirts?
It's not a nice world they live in. But, I'd guess they wouldn't have it any other way.
One of the things that's been proposed here in California is that the state prohibit any of the state or local cops to participate in drug busts by the Feds. If we can't legalize it 'cause the Feds threaten to sue us, we can at least quit helping them. But every such proposal runs into a brick wall with most local governments. It turns out that helping the Feds means they get to keep a percentage of any money or items confiscated by the Feds during the course of the raid, and for some departments that's a significant chunk of dough. So they have a monetary incentive to participate in these raids. Hmm.... corruption, much?

In the days of Julius Caesar, they were known as "javelin catchers".
