If the Taliban are indeed the puppets of Pakistan, as this article implies, then why the hell are we messing around in a place where our so-called friends are the masters of our enemies? Why are we at least not bombing the shit out of the ISI?
Why are we helping the masters of our enemies? Why are we giving them modern weapons and aid?

Why are you not bombing the sh*t out of them? Well E.B., it's because they are a nuclear nation like you, albeit not on your scale.
Whoopdeedoo if you have a 10,000 to 1 bomb ratio to them and you can turn their country into a slab of glass....what if one, just one nuke made it on American soil? I don't think you winning that war of attrition is worth it at all.
This is one time where you have to let the diplomats do their stuff. Also, if Islamabad are the Taliban masters, wouldn't it be possible for the Taliban to "steal" some nuclear material and make a nasty, dirty bomb? No, I think Pakistan is between a rock and a hard place right now. Heck, I could be way out in left field here though, who knows....Allan
We've fucked this one up pretty badly. We've gotten ourselves (and NATO) into a hole; the least we can do is stop digging.
Perhaps the contractors are trying to reach a point where both sides are buying their weapons and mercs. And they're fiddling with both countries to make it happen. Cha ching.
There are many reasons "our" Government supports the ISI which in turn funds Al Qaeda or whatever boogie man that they want to Terrorize us with. Drugs and the $ from them are one on the main reasons.
The ISI funded suspected hijacker Mohammed Atta (then named "Master Mind"). Remember when the 911 Omission Commissioners stated it was irrelevant who funded the attacks?
The head of the ISI Lt General Mahmoud was having breakfast in D.C. with then Rep. Peter Goss, later appointed CIA Director and Sen. Bob Graham. Both were on Intell. Committees.
The ties that bind go way back.

I came by way of Pen and Sword BTW.
Peace.
Human, I went to Pen & Sword and I didn't see a blogroll.
You are listed as a follower of P & S. If I'm not misremembering incorrectly, when I left a comment at P & S your blog title with hyperlink appeared below the comment frame. I couldn't resist clicking because it's a line from one of my favorite songs. I used to have "Earth Bound Misfit I" written on my hard hat when I worked construction 20 years ago.
Peace.
