Fred Thompson has proposed increasing the size of the Army and the Marine Corps to one million soldiers and Marines.
The current size is about 660,000. Has he any clue where he is going to get an additional 340,000 soliders and Marines? That'd require enlisting over 50,000 additional men and women each and every year and, given that the Army right now has to accept 20% criminals and retards to meet its current force levels, that's not going to happen.
Unless we have a draft. And then, because you can't draft people for six years, they'll have to draft hundreds of thousands each year.
(Look on the bright side: You'll just have more future Republican politicians piling up draft deferments, at least the ones who are not engaging in corruption or closeted gay sex.)

Sure you can draft people for six years. All it takes is one law. Voila.
But really, Frederick of Hollywood isn't proposing something unusual. Ronald Reagan's military was the size proposed by Frederick of Hollywood. Of course, Ronald Reagan's military wasn't involved in a shooting war in the Middle East either, other than a slight unpleasantness in Lebanon that he swiftly withdrew U.S. troops from once it became clear they were nothing but targets in a civil war that they didn't understand...
Reagan was an evil racist bastard. But he wasn't as stupid as he looked. Unlike the current pResident.
