A coalition of intellectual catastrophists on the American right is trying to convince people [that democracy is a luxury we can no longer afford] — giving the next generation of Republican officeholders, senior advisers, judges and appointees explicit permission and encouragement to believe that the country is on the verge of collapse. Some catastrophists take it a step further and suggest that officials might contemplate overthrowing liberal democracy in favor of revolutionary regime change or even imposing a right-wing dictatorship on the country.
And they are not shy about what they are planning to do:
Donald Trump and his allies have begun mapping out specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents should he win a second term, with the former president naming individuals he wants to investigate or prosecute and his associates drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations.
In private, Trump has told advisers and friends in recent months that he wants the Justice Department to investigate onetime officials and allies who have become critical of his time in office, including his former chief of staff, John Kelly, and former attorney general William P. Barr, as well as his ex-attorney Ty Cobb and former Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Mark A. Milley, according to people who have talked to him, who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations. Trump has also talked of prosecuting officials at the FBI and Justice Department, a person familiar with the matter said.
Say bad things about El Jefe de Mar a Lago, get sent to jail. Protest about His Orange Awfulness, get shot down on the street. If there were a repeat of the Pussyhat Protest of 1/21/17, expect the protesters to be met with water-cannons and live fire.
You may not like Joe Biden on a number of issues. I get that. But if you want this country to survive as a democracy to have a choice in 2026 and 2028, then do not vote for a Republican for any office whatsoever. If he gets in, there is a good chance he won't leave office. And if he does, he'll cook the process so Coke Boy gets two terms as president, then the Family Idiot gets two terms, then the Daughter He Wants to Bang.
And who ultimately wins from his destroying the United States of America? His buddy, Vladimir Putin, who will then feel free to restore the borders of the Russian Empire, if not push them to the Atlantic seaboard.
If you ever took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States and if you vote for Trump, then you have violated your oath and, as far as this blogger is concerned, your word is worth dogshit.

G--D---! I very seldom drink, but these two articles have me reconsidering.
T****'s intended Magacide of Democracy and Constitutional principles is not an America I want to live in.
Scarier than any science fiction movie I've ever seen. Nothing scientific or fictional about what Donny wants to do to our country. All fascism, all the time. I can't understand how so many can not see the danger he brings. People get tired of hearing how "this election matters more than any other", but this is it. We elect Democrats or we become a dictatorship. It can't be more plain than that.
