Another Streisand Effect Lesson

It’s been almost three years since a San Francisco judge sealed the record of tech executive Maury Blackman’s 2021 arrest for domestic violence. But the allegations still show up in his Google search results, thanks to an independent journalist — one who Blackman is now suing for $25 million.

On Dec. 22, 2021, Blackman, a self-described venture capitalist and former chief executive officer at intelligence contractor Premise Data, was arrested by San Francisco police after an altercation with his girlfriend in their apartment in the Mission Bay neighborhood.

Nothing says "I wanna keep this quiet" like suing someone for talking about it. Especialy when the person you're suing is a reporter.

Truth From a Republican Appointed Judge

I usually quote a little bit and let you go read the rest, but this is both too important and too good:

A federal judge in Seattle blocked, temporarily, President Donald Trump’s attempt to rescind birthright citizenship — the idea spelled out in the Constitution that every person born in the United States is an American citizen.

Senior U.S. District Judge John Coughenour on Thursday was blistering in his criticism of Trump’s action as he granted a temporary restraining order that blocks Trump’s executive order from taking effect nationwide.

“I’ve been on the bench for over four decades, I can’t remember another case where the question presented is as clear as this one is. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order,” Coughenour, an appointee of Ronald Reagan, said from the bench. “There are other times in world history where we look back and people of goodwill can say where were the judges, where were the lawyers?”

Coughenour interrupted before Brett Shumate, a Justice Department attorney, could even complete his first sentence.

“In your opinion is this executive order constitutional?” he asked.

Said Shumate, “It absolutely is.”

“Frankly, I have difficulty understanding how a member of the Bar could state unequivocally that this is a constitutional order,” Coughenour said. “It just boggles my mind.”

The executive order will remain blocked for at least 14 days while lawsuits in Washington and elsewhere over Trump’s action proceed.

One thing is clear: Shumate has burned his credibility. Defending a blatantly unconstitutional order is going above and beyond the duty of zealous representation.

Another thing is clear: This is impeachable. That the Republicans are lining up behind Der Dickeralterorangefarbenerführer is going to be something that I, and others, will happily hang around the neck of Republicans forever.

The Trump administration has put a freeze on many federal health agency communications with the public through at least the end of the month.

In a memo obtained by The Associated Press, acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Dorothy Fink told agency staff leaders Tuesday that an “immediate pause” had been ordered on — among other things — regulations, guidance, announcements, press releases, social media posts and website posts until such communications had been approved by a political appointee.

Having scientific matters reviewed by a political officer to ensure it is in line with the Dear Leader's ideology worked really well for the USSR, right?

The Felon's also apparently "paused" medical research grants, which will result in a shitload of research programs and clinical trials stopping.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump revoked a six-decade-old executive order designed to combat workplace discrimination by federal contractors, undoing a landmark labor standard that stretches back to the presidency of Lyndon Baines Johnson.

The rule Trump nuked, Executive Order 11246, forbade federal contractors from discriminating on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity. It granted the Labor Department the power to enforce its provisions through a contracting standards office.

For sixty years, Federal contractors have been forbidden from discriminating against people. But the Twice-Impeached Felon wants to Make America White Again, so he's doing everything he can to make discrimination the law of the land.

President Donald Trump has made good on his vow to pardon participants in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, sparking intense criticism — including from one of the planned recipients.

Pamela Hemphill, a 71-year-old resident of Boise, Idaho, who was sentenced to two months in jail after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge in the attack, said she will not be accepting Trump’s pardon.

“Accepting the pardon would be an insult to the Capitol Police officers, to the rule of law, to our nation,” Hemphill, who had posted videos of herself entering the Capitol as the attack unfolded, told the Idaho Statesman on Tuesday.

I don't know that I'd have the gumption to do what she did, to skate away with a clean record because the leader of my former cult had the power to issue legal forgiveness. So I have a lot of admiration for her and her decision.
