Your Sunday Morning Prop Noise

Burt Rutan's company Beech Starship:

I don't know how many others are out there. Beechcraft bought back every one they could find and scrapped them.

I swear I saw one of these fly over my house maybe 10-15 years ago. I heard something unusual coming and had to look up. In the Army, I was taught to identify Soviet MiG and Sukhoi aircraft by profile. I've been told I was seeing things or saw a Piaggio P.180. But I know what I saw. Only one has the pointy nose, small forward wings, swept back main wings, dual rear turboprops, and that distinctive sound.

Cool sound! Reminds a little bit of my 1960's model aircraft motor. It was tough to get started.

A couple used to operate out of Addison. I think they’re still going, but I can’t be sure. Last I heard there were about six or so left flying. A Starship owner bought all of Beech’s parts and documents back in 2003, and was running a company to keep them flying (Starfleet Support). I assume it’s still going.

CP88, yes, they're still going.

The Starship and Piaggio sound 'odd', because of the interaction of the props with the exhaust. But they are pretty in flight!
