Comrade,
I took a class in 12th grade called Current World Problems. I had way too many credits to graduate, even including two different teacher's aide classes. At the time, we got 1/8th of a credit for extra curricular activities like marching band, jazz band, athletics, volunteer in the community, etc. Since I was in so very many things, I had about 5 extra credits entering my senior year. I just had to take Government which was a senior only required to graduate class. To fill out some of my schedule, I took the current events class.
In that class, we learned about many of the other countries different governments, and most importantly to me, I learned that many other countries governments worked very well for them. I understood that America's style of checks and balance government worked for us only because of our heritage and how we came to be.
It is a totally unique thing to learn about governments that have existed since the 1500's that still worked for them. The UK, while today a shadow of what they once were, still has a government that works for them, having done away with the monarchy in everything other than as a figurehead. And of course other nations have had success and failures, I think of Germany right off the top of my head.
And the basic principle of Communism sounds like a lofty and workable goal, although in practice it never gets to the replacement of the Bourgeoisie by the Proletariat. Looking at the nation of Iraq, pre American imperialism, while a nation of a dictatorship, functioned. And Saddam Hussein, while brutal and vile, kept the nation functioning. I am not excusing any murderous dictator or regime like in North Korea, merely trying to explain my thoughts about America and our nation building that we love, trying to make mini Republics like ourselves.
The reason that Saddam Hussein kept other nations at bay, was the fact that he let them think that he had WMD's, which at one point the U.S. had sold to him. I thought at the time, and still think the same, that he had gotten rid of all of those weapons of mass destruction, because keeping many types of those weapons is risky, even if one is willing to spend the money that it takes to ensure their safety to your own people.
I am one of those people who might be considered a small L libertarian. I think the federal government should only do exactly what is provided for in the Constitution, as was the founding fathers beliefs. Certainly many later changed their minds, when it became convenient for them to do so, such as in Marbury v Madison. If I recall correctly, without looking it up, that it gave the Supreme Court the ability to say if a law or an act was constitutional or not. Something that the founders did not envision, since it would eliminate our
co- equal 3 branches of government, granting the SCOTUS the power to effectively run the entire government. We can see that result in the recent decisions of Abortion Rights and Gun Rights. Both of them should not have gone to the Supreme Court. Roe v Wade in the first place should have been a state issue and the 2nd amendment should have been enough, without different states being allowed by the citizens of those states to even consider laws restricting civilian ownership of the same arms that the military possesses.
