This Is Bad; Milton Ed.

Hurricane Milton has intensified into a category five storm.

it may weaken by the time it hits the West Coast of Florida, but that is just relative. It is still going to be a significant storm. If you're in its path, it could be bad. if you're on the West Coast of Florida, where it comes as shore, it could be very bad.

Storm surge is expected to be 8-12ft plus tide depending on landfall.

Since there is time prepare, get you documents into a easy to move
and water resistant container, supply of water, any drugs you must
have. If you are in an an area that has flooded before get out of there!
A set of clothes if you need to get away and stay for days is handy.

There are many sites suggesting preparedness items but having your personal papers, a few years of tax documents, bank information
and home papers are all good to have after if there is any damage.

Take valuables as well and prized pictures.

Board up windows as needed.

The expectation is the intensity will be lower than Cat 3 at landfall its still nothing to mess with. Done screw with this thing.

IF a hasty exit is planned or expected start planning and packing now.

I am in Polk County: work at the Bartow library, and the staff has to prep the building for the storm, so I don't think I will be able to get out of the way fast enough. I'm far enough inland that the storm surge won't be a problem, but massive rain is going to cause enough flooding to be a nightmare, and the winds...
It's the days after the storm passes though, waiting for the power and AC to come back on, that will be the nightmare.

We're on the Space coast, but our daughter is in Tampa. She is currently stuck somewhere between here and there , along with thousands of other refugees.
No risk of flooding at our house, but we're supposed to get cat one winds even here on the Atlantic Coast.
