While I think that evaluating people today, with today's standards, for something they may or may not have done 30 or 40 years ago is foolish, when one sets the standards of criticism, one had better be able to live up to those standards oneself.
And where is the criticism and destruction of careers of all those actors and comedians who have, in the (much more) recent past, donned "Blackface" in their routines?
Are you asking why the reporters aren't covering that or why I'm not writing about it?
The GOP was giddily drilling holes in the bottom of the boat and laughing as the Democrats were getting wet. And not realizing they're in the boat, too.
Blackface was racist 40 years ago, and it’s racist now.
Ted Danson got slammed for his blackface routine at the time, B. Anyone else you had in mind?
Reporters.
Selective reporting and selective standards.
If one is bad, so is the other.
Specify what they’re being selective about, B. Name names that have worn blackface but didn’t get reported on by “reporters”, as you say.
B, take it up with the reporters. Beyond that, entertainers don't represent anyone. If they're racist, etc., the easy remedy is stop patronizing them. Don't watch their shows, don't go to their movies, don't buy their records/DVDs, don't watch their videos.
DA: Kimmel and Fallon are two that come to mind for recent "Blackface".
And that wasn't 30 years ago or more.
Where is the outrage against them? Wrong is, after all, wrong.
Comrade: My question is: Why the selective outrage? I think the Governor is getting a raw deal here...I don't care what party his orders come from. But Kimmel and Fallon were fairly recent.
Look at movies back then. Say..."Blazing Saddles" (yes, I know it was parody, but if it was made today???) or "Airplane". Or LOTS of others. Lots of what, by today's standards, would be "Racism"....mainstream then.
B, and so, what? Fallon and Kimmel are entertainers. When the outrage comes for them, and it will, they'll be their networks' problems.
What entertainers do in performance and what people do in real life are two different things, B. Sorry you find that point incomprehensible.
