McCarthy Insinuated That the "Freedom Caucus" is a Pack of Children

After chaotic days of turmoil in the House, Speaker Kevin McCarthy abruptly abandoned demands for steep spending cuts from his right flank and instead relied on Democrats to pass the bill, at risk to his own job. The Senate followed with final passage closing a whirlwind day at the Capitol.

“We’re going to do our job,” McCarthy, R-Calif., said before the House vote. “We’re going to be adults in the room. And we’re going to keep government open.”

OK, no shutdown...good.

A fork in the eyes of the Freedom Caucus... good. Don't be surprised if McCarthy also cut a deal with the Democrats to protect his speakership, in excange for not kowtowing anymore to the priorities of Pedo Gaetz, Gym Jordan and the rest of the MAGA terrorists in Congress.

No aid to Ukraine... bad. That only gives aid and comfort to Putin and I can't see how any rational adult in the Congress thought that was a good signal to send.

ETA: Pedo Gaetz says that he's going to try to oust McCarthy. McCarthy is saying he has no more fucks to give about Gaetz and his Band of Children.

We have known for a long time now that the rethugs have become
factional and its showing with the last set of elections.

They are not a party only a distracted horde.

Now they are trying and failing at herding their cats.

They still don't have the votes to oust Kevin, or really, do anything else. Without Democrats, the government couldn't function.

I won't be surprised. I turned on the TV last night just in time to see the senate conduct their business. Schumer gave a short speech and McConnell gave a speech. Mostly an assurance to our allies and a bit of warning on his last point about Ukraine as I saw it.

Trying to figure out if the Democrats think they're better off with McCarthy or without him.I don't think the Republicans have the votes to oust him by themselves.I would be surprised if there weren't some agreements before this extension passed.

Mark, normally the party that's in the minority votes against every candidate for Speaker. So it only takes five Republicans to join them to oust Kevin.

A: Yes, but we'd really rather there were enough adults in the room to shove the toddlers to the curb....and have a government that isn't a laughing stock.
Q2: Have the usual Right leaning military and law enfvorcement people seen enough to real change their minds about what used to be the party of Lincoln and Eisenhower?

A2: No. One of the Right-Wing ex-military bloggers I follow started posting about Lexington and Concord almost immediately after McCarthy shafted the MAGA caucus.

But that's the thing about the MAGA children: When they lose on any issue, they start throwing tantrums and foaming about revolution. I am still amazed that providing health insurance was something that some of those low-wattage fools thought was worth destroying the country over.

You'd think that people that swore an oath to this document would adhere to the principles contained in the Preamble. Especially the 'promote general Welfare" portion.

Now I'm no legal scholar, much less an attorney, but I think I have a grasp of the English language. Seems to me that the Congress critters (R's AND D's) and the Supremes (minus Diana Ross) are cherry picking the portions that they want to promote and ignoring the ones that don't interest their base. As a people, we need to hold our elected officials accountable at the ballot box. But that's easier said than done when we have folks that are hell bent on gaining and keeping power over others in this nation.

Question is how much risk do the Democrats want to take. We are ,after all, talking about the US economy. McCarthy is a proven scum whose word is worthless. It's hard to imagine, but
given the deep bench, we could see worse.So , do the Democrats prefer a (now constrained) McCarthy to a wild card?

They will continue to throw their toys out of the pram until they are either dead or decisively defeated. Note the Confederacy was NOT decisively defeated, as the rise of segregation and Jim Crow in the South post-Civil War showed.

Once upon a time when you could discuss, with an eclectic restaurant owner, that trumples was the last gasp of white male power. I'm somewhat disappointed that populism has remained this popular this long, but it appears to be a feature of EU and US democracies.
