A Bit of a Read on the Russian-Ukrainian War

Operation Z, The Death Throes of an Imperial Delusion, which came from here.

The first few pages reveal the depth of Russian arrogance and stupidity:

The VDV – Russia’s airborne forces – spearheaded the invasion. ...The VDV assault units received the plan three days before the invasion and started excitedly talking in anticipation of their daring operation. VDV commanders started discussing their primary objective at Hostomel in clear. When they landed, therefore, they were met with Ukrainian artillery and a coordinated counterattack, quickly being driven from the airport. (Emphasis added)

How operationally stupid does one have to be to discuss, in the clear, an impending operation against an adversary that is roughly equivalent in technology and weaponry? That's the mindset of an army that is used to fighting in colonial wars.[1} Russian soldiers weren't told that they were going to war, they thought that they were participating in an excersize, so when they came under hostile fire and began taking casualties, they fell apart.
