Knock Off the Holocaust Imagery (and Tabbie)

You can see, on some of the gun websites and blogs, allusions that compare gun owners in 2018 America to Jews in Germany in 1933.

Look, guys, just knock that shit off. To those of us whose family trees were pruned during the Holocaust, it's offensive as all fuck. It's in poor taste, as well.

Nobody is talking about denying our citizenship or making us live in ghettos or any of that. We have a frigging constitutional amendment, not to mention about 300-500 million guns. So please, stop.

In Pennsylvania, a dental practice is threatening to report parents who miss appointments for their children to Child Protective Services (or whatever thy call it in PA).

Here's hoping that the dental practice makes a speedy trip to Chapter 7.

Who in the marketing depart thought that this was a “good” way to generate more business? They and whomever signed off on this campaign should have every other molar drilled into, perhaps to include a heavy handed dental hygienist to give them their next cleaning.

Nice kid you've got there. Be a shame if his parents went to jail...

But that imagery is valid if you exchange Jews with Gun Owners. We are being treated the same in their imagery and rhetoric. Look at history, the Liberals and the anti gun folks are using pretty much the same tactics as '38 and '39 in the Republic.

Not that I think that it will end the same way, mind you. But the comparison of tactics is valid.

I don’t remember a bunch of kids coming after the Jews, or maybe you’re thinking of Wild in the Streets:

B: How many million gun owners exterminated so far?

George, tell me about the FEMA camps for the gun owners again.

Huh, B. Guess I missed all the gun owner's broken windows the other night.

Godwin's law is still very much a thing and unless you're talking about actual Nazis it's still very much a losing move. If you can't make a better argument than "these people are doing a thing that was also one of the many things done by those other people who were THE WORST" your point probably isn't a strong one.

B’s timeline lacks historical accuracy:

Extensive propaganda was used to spread the Nazi Party’s racist goals and ideals. During the first six years of Hitler’s dictatorship, German Jews felt the effects of more than 400 decrees and regulations that restricted all aspects of their public and private lives.

And how is comparing the tactics used and propaganda spread inaccurate? There are a great deal of similarities. I should have, perhaps, started in '33 (the boycott) rather than '38, but that does not materially change the comparison.
Of course, if I said the sky was blue, you'd complain that I was inaccurate because I didn't specify what shade.
Ms Misfit has a point, but the tactics are similar.

Yeah, talking about their experience of being shot at demonizes gun owners, like when the Nazis blamed the Jews for everything from adultery to zoonoses.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all responsible gun owners in America.

No, the comaprison is not valid. The "item" in question is not a person, but an inanimate object.

B said...

CP: Gun owners are inanimate objects?

you are being obtuse. Both you and DA are smarter than you appear in this discussion. The deliberate denigration and dehumanization of gun owners is nearly identical in method to the dehumanization of Jews in the '30's in Weimar Germany.

It is battlespace preparation for the next step. It won't end the same, mind you, but that is the direction being taken.

Dark Avenger said...

What denigration, B? What dehumanization? Unless you can point to a specific example in either case, telling us we’re obtuse and acting stupid isn’t the way to advance the dialog.

dinthebeast said...

You know, I'm a gun owner, and I don't feel denigrated or dehumanized in the least. As a matter of fact, I feel strangely liberated now that I'm not the only gun owner I know who no longer publicly supports the NRA.

This is dehumanizing and denigrating, IMHO:
