Oakland’s police chief says officials are investigating to see whether officers used excessive force.For "investigation", read "cover-up", for almost all of those things seem to end with a verdict of "use of force was justified." The cops were fifty or seventy-five feet away from Lance Corporal Olsen. Tear gas guns are grenade launchers, they are fired from the shoulder, like a rifle or shotgun. I find it very hard to believe that Olsen was shot "accidentally".
Some cop aimed that grenade at him. If Olsen dies, it's murder by cop. Which means that unless somebody took video of the slaying and posts it on YouTube, nothing will happen.

Who's police chief in Oakland this hour? I lose track, they go through police chiefs like Spinal Tap goes through drummers.
The only chance of a real investigation is if Mayor Jean Quan forces it. She's already in trouble because of her "Heckuva Job Brownie" moment where she congratulated the Oakland PD for "peacefully resolving the situation", only to find out that the Oakland PD, err, *lied* to her. Throwing someone under the bus -- maybe another police chief who would be the third in six months (the Spinal Tap jokes just keep coming!) -- might be the only way she has even a chance of being re-elected, because she was supposed to be a liberal and was elected w/support of labor unions and community activists. Today... probably not so much.

I just saw where the Police Chief Resigned. Said he "didn't have control" ?? Who else would?

That was last month's police chief, w3ski, who was upset that the mayor and City Council weren't allowing him to criminalize hanging out with your buds or walking while black. I don't know who this month's police chief is just out of hand, but I'm sure next month there will be another police chief. The drummer in Spinal Tap. Just sayin ;).
