EB, you would love to be where I am right now.
I am house sitting for my folks.
I have the back door open to let the cat wander in and out and suddenly I hear a very loud prop going through a few rev cycles.
My parents live across the street from a runway that used to be way out of town but has been swallowed by development. They closed the main airport last year to subdivide and the East West runway but this one is still privately owned. Several of my parents neighbors have hangers and single engine jobs they still use.
The city is already after it but for right now, you would love it.

My best.
Busted.
PS.
There he goes, off into the wild blue yonder.

Busted,

What city is that? Fly-in communities are pretty rare up here in the frozen nawth.

Vancouver WA, whoever it was got out about 45 minutes before an unforcast snow that lasted about an hour. Didn't stick and sunny out now.

I was in the Saline Valley a few days ago. This is part of the China Lake low level practice zone. I got to see F18's and F16's *really* close. As in, they used my moving Jeep as "target practice" for their practice runs (and no, I don't know what F16's were doing flying out of China Lake Naval Air Station, but unless someone has invented single-engined F18's, that's what they were :-). First time a F16 came up behind me and screeched overhead real close, I thought every tire on my Jeep had just exploded and my engine popped all its piston rods out the crankcase. I didn't know what the hell had just happened -- until I saw the F16 waggling off in front of me and realized I'd just been "it" in a game of vehicular destruction practice tag (I hadn't heard him coming of course, since he was zooming at close to or over the speed of sound). The next runs were more expected, and I got to see the pilots pretty up close and personal as they wagged off to go around for another try at practice vehicular destruction :-).

Some of the folks at the hot springs were whining about the low level passbys. I shrugged and noted that these guys (and gals) had the best job in the world. They were like someone whose *job* was to ride roller coasters and shit. They were paid to be the envy of birds everywhere who *wish* they could fly like these guys. Too bad that they have to agree to kill people in order to get this job. Sigh.
