Colt will soon release Pythons with 5" and 2.5" barrels.
5" barrel guns seem to be prized when it comes to S&W N frames, so Colt may be onto something with that tube length. I'm not a big fan of 2.5" barrels. Between a 2" and a 3" gun, the 2.5" seems to be the worst of both worlds, in my unstudied opinion.

LOL! I forgot about your passion for Colt wheel guns. I saw the post title and thought "what recommendations for taking out rattlers and Copperheads does Comrade Misfit offer?"
Truth be told, I prefer S&W wheelguns. Having said that, the Detective Specials are nice; smaller than a K-frame, almost as small as a J-frame and they hold six rounds. And the Pythons are nice, though. (Not going to get another one, though.)
