Mike Pence’s former chief of staff Marc Short joined several senior Republicans in rallying to defend the former vice-president on Sunday in his escalating feud with Donald Trump over the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election.
...
“Unfortunately the president had many bad advisers, who were basically snake oil salesmen giving him really random and novel ideas as to what the vice-president could do. But our office researched that and recognized that was never an option.”
Short also attacked the Republican party’s position – crystalized this week in a widely derided censure motion for Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, the only two Republicans on the House committee investigating the insurrection, that the January 6 rioters were engaging in “legitimate political discourse”.
“From my front-row seat, I did not see a lot of legitimate political discourse,” said Short, who along with the vice-president had to be hustled to a place of safety as the mob rampaged through the building.
Chris Christie is another one who has jumped off the Trump Train, probably because Trump gave him Covid.
Unfortunately, the traitorous nutjobs are still out there, yammering away. Most of the rest of the politicians in the Trump party are cowering in fear of their Orange Overlord.

I don't understand. Can someone explain why they worship this trump religion? It is a disaster. It hurts everyone. Maybe they think they will be around to pillage the rubble.
It sounds like they are still covering for T###p when they say "unfortunately he had some bad advisors". In other words they are still not going to blame anything on him just in case he has enough power left to retaliate, and he will retaliate. He had the kind of advisors he wanted because they would tell him what he wants to hear.
All the way back to Roy Cohen.
The view that Donny is simmering may be true. He seems to be reacting in a worse way to the pressures and more often. He has all but hung himself lately with his blurtings. We can only hope he further incriminates himself and that someone in Law Enforcement will have the balls to finally prosecute him.
The only solution to tRump is a lengthy prison sentence.
And the sooner the better.

Not so much of pillaging the rubble but staying clear of retaliation.
The latter he is infamous for.
The bad advisors are not free of his wrath. Mostly because they were
unable to give Drumpf the ask. THat makes them useless (your fired)
or traitors.
Its just more wavering to keep the big lie afloat.
Eck!
The US government at the very highest levels works as a very efficient machine for getting necessary information to the president for his use in decision making.
Fergus took the meat axe to that part of the government early and often, installing advisors for their effect at pissing off everyone he was afraid were disrespecting him.
That information system was put in place for a goddamn reason, and really, this disaster is less than what could rationally be expected to result from its destruction.

You need feedback from the governed to make non-absurd decisions and this very fear of retaliation is why dictators and wannabes fail. Top-down authoritarian rule ends up isolated and error prone and flailing from stupidity because advisers live in fear of the camps or the Eastern Front if they tell the Big Man the truth. This was a wonderful miracle for the WWII allies who were careful to never assassinate the detached fool at the top making all the terminally idiotical decisions.
