It is a sad commentary on the state of both this nation and the Department of Justice that it is worthy of note when the Justice Department decides that maybe they should be in the business of enforcing the law, rather than just serving as a gun-toting badge-wearing arm of the GOP.
It is a sad note when the Federal cops have to say "no, we are no longer going to be partisan goons for George Bush, we're going to go back to just enforcing the law."
And it is sad when the reaction of the population (minus the Kool-Aid Drinkers) probably is going to be along the lines of: "Yeah, talk is cheap. See that you do. We'll be watching you."

My reaction exactly. These fuckheads want to return to the days of Jim Crow, when darkies knew their place (i.e., at the end of a lynching rope if they got "uppity" and demanded the same rights as white people). As a native Southerner I recognize the code words put out by the Bush Administration regarding voting rights just fine, thank you.
