I already knew that if Henry Ford and Charles Lindberg were not outright Nazis, they were Nazi-adjacent, and why nobody in my parents' generation of the family drove a Ford.

I'm not, but the book is about the American Fascist movement.
The DoJ wasn't exactly pro-fascist, but they weren't anti-, either. They were instrumental in keeping a lid on things and succeeded until about 1960; by then, nobody cared anymore.
As a prelude and good read Fascism-Warning-Madeleine-Albright
as that a more critical view and analysis of what facism is.
It was published in 2018 and the last chapter was about
"the future" and what was seen likely pre election 2016.
