Your Sunday Morning Jet Noise

F-100, the first of the "Century" fighters and the first American fighter capable of supersonic flight (other than in a dive):

That airplane used so much runway that one would have thought that Republic had made F-100s.

Must be an early F model with no afterburner. And he DID use all of the runway!!!

One of my favorite lines of all time was the late Jeff Ethell, in his video of Republic's P-47, reporting that wags had opined that "if you could build a runway around the world, Republic could build an airplane that would use all of it."

When I started at ZJX in 1968, the skies were full of F4s that could do amazing things, viz a vis climb. I don't remember any Huns still flying by then.

However, when I got to ZAU in '73, the Indiana ANG was still flying them out of FWA. I got a chance to observe that they climbed like sacks of concrete compared to F4s. They were probably really something when first introduced, and I remember having a model of one about then, but I sure got soured on them with that IANG experience.
