Basically, a tale of how the Air Force almost killed a bunch of friendlies a few years back. And it may explain how the Air Force did kill a bunch of our guys a few days ago.
I'm neither a former ground-pounder nor a zoomie. But it seems to me that thinking that one can use a fucking heavy bomber for close air support is indeed the fevered imaginings of a deeply unhinged mind.
The Air Force has been trying to kill off the A-10 for the last several decades. Damn their evil souls if they succeed this time.

There was a friendly fire accident involving an A-10 once, with the A-10 pilot mistaking the uniquely-looking AAV-7 marines APCs for distinctly uniquely-looking BMPs.
Flying low does not immunise against error, not even in daylight (and it's meaningless in night or fog, when the grunts still expect CAS services).
The AF can probably be lured into complete impotence by giving them faster and faster fighters (say, the F-104 with a bigger and bigger engine,) and told their only mission is to shoot down other hypersonic fighters and look dashing.
That way, the Army can take over aviation the way it should be taken over.
.. but, but, but the fabulous F-35 is going to be able to do EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE for EVERYBODY.
Do I smell a TFX ??
soon MANPADS will be everywhere all the time and there won't be CAS... what then?
