Your Sunday Morning Jet Noise

Columbian Air Force Kfirs

You'll also see a Boeing 767 that the Israelis converted into an air tanker for the Columbians.

Basically Mirage 5's re-engined with F4 Phantom engines and with Israeli avionics / weapons systems. You'll note the drogue chute needed on landing. That's because the delta wing doesn't land well, since it can't have flaps. The Israelis stole the plans for the airframe from the French, of course... though there are some who say that the French Air Force was also complicit in providing the Israelis with the plans and parts needed. Wouldn't be the first time the French military and their civilian overlords had an, erm, "difference of opinion"...

I think I once (long ago) saw a couple of these at MCAS Yuma being used as "aggressors.
Funny that the US hasn't been able to deploy a replacement tanker, eh ?

bearsense, I imagine that their contracting rules are a bit looser. And, more to the point, they don't have the USAF running their procurement office.

And more to the point, nobody tried to bribe the Israelis into using a specific plane as the air tanker, they just paid the Israelis outright to use a specific plane as the air tanker. It makes a difference :).

The Israelis when it comes to military gear reminds me of myself when it comes to IT gear. Always scrounging up bits and pieces of gear where they can get it and putting it together in ways that work better than it seems like it should work on paper. Or at least that was how it was until... well, I'm not going to go into Likudnik nastiness here.
