It did a reasonably job with the story itself. The politics of the time were reasonably accurate. There had to be a lead role to carry the story. Tom Hanks was a good choice because he could play the role as written. It tells a good story of the time.

Tom Hanks is a Jimmy Stewart type. Does a lot of work and gets a good role once in awhile. I liked Tom Hanks in the Bonefire of the Vanities
