No Doubt that Trump Loves Him Some Oil Leaks

A total of 210,000 gallons of oil leaked Thursday from the Keystone Pipeline in South Dakota, the pipeline's operator, TransCanada, said.

Crews shut down the pipeline Thursday morning, and officials are investigating the cause of the leak, which occurred about three miles southeast of the town of Amherst, said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the state's Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
And then there was this quote:
"The safety of the public and environment are our top priorities and we will continue to provide updates as they become available," the company said.
Yeah, sure they are. {/sarcasm} This isn't exactly an aging pipeline as things go. Dumping over 200,000 gallons of oil into the local watershed isn't a minor event.

You can be pretty sure that Trump had a two word reaction to the news of the leak, along the lines of "oh, well" or "shit happens", if he even heard about it. Probably not, for "Fox and Friends" is a propaganda show, not a news show.

Bonus points, the leak was underground, so the volume may grow as they investigate, the watershed damage will likely be significant, and it wasn’t detected till they noticed some crude signs at the surface! This is exactly the type of event that the Standing Rock Protests were about. The response was that this kind of leak was impossible because the systems in place would detect them quickly! Greedy fuckers.

"...because the systems in place would detect them quickly!"
The article I read noted the system can pump 600,000 barrels per day, so it took 8 hrs at a minimum from detection of the leak to the oil finally stopping.

Clearly a better leak detection method is needed - maybe a bunch of RIFD chips injected every 10 min or so, with a leak declared if less than the usual X% of them are detected further on? Else, I can imagine a slow leak, especially a lot of small spot leaks, releasing a lot more before being detected.
