Are You Being Assaulted by the Feds?

I am defining an assault by the classic definition as "an unwelcome touching."

The "touching", in this case, is by X-rays. A company in Massachusetts is selling portable backscatter X-ray vans that will X-ray you in your car without your consent.
The Z Backscatter Vans, or ZBVs, as the company calls them, bounce a narrow stream of x-rays off and through nearby objects, and read which ones come back.
Which means that those fuckers are irradiating you with X-rays. I don't give a fuck how low the dosage is, the point that I could be just minding my own business and some douchebag from a 3-letter agency gives me a covert X-ray is offensive.

This is how our privacy, liberties and freedom all die. Not because the government has an idea or an overarching conspiracy. We lose our freedoms because some greedheads in private industry come up with a more intrusive way to monitor us, all so they can make a pile of cash off of it. We lose the freedom to be left alone because clowns like American Science & Engineering will get rich in the process.

May everyone who works for American Science & Engineering rot in hell. If you want to tell them yourself, call them at 978-262-8700. The president and CEO is Anthony R. Fabiano. The chief mad scientist is Joseph Callerame, Ph.D. Their PR weasel is named Joe Reiss. Or you can write them at 829 Middlesex Turnpike, Billerica, MA 01821.

Does anyone know what thickness of lead it will take to defeat this gadget?

Hi EBM - Here's the lead thickness per x-ray voltage chart.

X-Rays generated by peak voltages
not exceeding Minimum thickness
of Lead

75 kV 1.0 mm
100 kV 1.5 mm
125 kV 2.0 mm
150 kV 2.5 mm
175 kV 3.0 mm
200 kV 4.0 mm
225 kV 5.0 mm
300 kV 9.0 mm
400 kV 15.0 mm
500 kV 22.0 mm
600 kV 34.0 mm
900 kV 51.0 mm

Screw the police state. I am so over law and order.

Thanks. Any idea what the power output of those things is?

Crap, my wife drives by there every day. It's my old neighborhood. Maybe I should mount a protest wherein I videotape everyone entering and leaving the building. It would probably take the stormtroopers about 30 minutes to find and taser me.

Don't tell me you're actually surprised by this, the typical corporation exhibits all the traits of a textbook sociopath, whereas the dominant ideology is a particularly vicious social Darwinism with a new label. Thanks for contact info, though, not gonna go gentle into that good night.

I'd mount a protest with FDA/CDRH as that is minimally class 2 and likely class 3 device due to the use of X-rays.

Further the levels needed are high enough should injury occur like a recent CAT system error then really nasty things can happen.

The level of Xrays needed would be high as it's back scatter not transmissive. Accordingly high doses of Xray are associated serious health effects. Like the term for that will be the drive by fry.

This is serious guano. If they stick to scanning shipping containers fine.
Put people in the picture its not right.

(tongue firmly in cheek): a .38 should do, if you can ID the van...

Maybe they should be devices sold only on the order of a physician, and operated only on the orders of a physician. Furthermore, the results should be protected under HIPAA laws.
