Bf-109s were in front line service from the beginning of the war until the Luftwaffe ran out of flyable ones in 1945, and then in other nations' air forces for twenty more years.

The first time I went to the Air and Space museum in DC, I noticed all of the German aircraft engines had more horsepower per cubic inch the allies plane engines.
