Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin defended his trip to view the solar eclipse from Fort Knox in Kentucky, for which he used a government plane, saying he did hot have any interest in the event because he is from New York.Really. He went to an event that was in the line of totality because he had no interest in the eclipse. And while he was there, he and Mitch "The Turtle" McConnell went to the roof of the Ft. Knox Gold Depository to watch it because he was only being polite to those ignorant Kentuckians who were interest in a fairly rare astronomical event?
“People in Kentucky took this stuff very seriously. Being a New Yorker, I don’t have any interest in watching the eclipse,” Muchin said on Thursday, according to The Washington Post.
And the trip was oh, so coincidentally planned for the very same day as a solar eclipse? And of course, Lady Louise had to tag along to attend an official government meeting for reasons?
Damn, Mooch, you really need to get better at lying. This is fucking amateur.

To say that one or another of the shitbags that Trump assembled for his cabinet of catastrophe is "the worst" is tricky business indeed, considering the barrel-scraping and rock-lifting that was involved, but Mnuchin's pandering condescension and apparent belief in the pure idiocy of everyone within earshot-and not even taking his odious wife into account - makes him remarkable even in that company.
THis is wrong.
To say this is the first time a government official has used a "meeting" as an excuse to go somewhere would also be wrong.
We should, however, stamp it out whenever we can. No matter who. Dem or Repub.
Nancy Pelosi comes to mind as an abuser as well. When the Right pointed out her behavior, AFAIK, it stopped. Or at least became lower profile.
I'm glad this one came out. Gotta keep thos politicians honest.
Did anyone show him the picture of a certain fellow Noo Yawker staring at the eclipse without glasses?
I believe him in that the eclipse wasn't his real purpose. He was there to fondle the gold. The eclipse was a bonus. No word on whether they stripped to frolic amongst the piles.
What is wrong is the "pay civil airfare" and fly on a government jet routine. He wants a G-jet, sure....but he can pay for the portion of his flight that isn't Government business and the portion that supports his wife. Let's say $25k an hour, 4 hour flight, $100k. Him and the aides had some business, call it 50%...let's say there are 4 aides, but they get covered because they go with him automatically and there was actual business (yea, right, but...). We got 6 people, 4 covered 100%, one covered 50% and one bumming along...charge him $100,000 x 0.25, or $25,000.
Now, if he's the Secretary of Defense, or Homeland Security, I think we pickup the tab because immediate, secure communications are vital. With this guy, it's important to be able to contact him, but his cell phone will suffice till he can get somewhere.
