I recall reading not too long ago that the five main booster engines produce more power in one minute than the whole of the UK consumes in one hour, at peak consumption. Not bad for something that burned kerosene mixed with liquid oxygen and was designed in the early 1960's.

Interesting about the flames. Wasn't the first stage Kerosene and LOX, not LH and LOX?
